Cinema Can Do Magic: Memoria

Some of the unforgettable Arsenal highlights are the evenings with Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who attended the two retrospectives dedicated to him in 2009 and 2023. His works create unique sensorial experienced and prove that the aesthetic possibilities of filmmaking have by no means been exhausted. His most recent film MEMORIA also bears witness to the magic of his cinema and was made outside of Thailand with an international cast for the first time. During a visit to Bogotá in Colombia, Jessica (Tilda Swinton), a British orchid specialist, is pursued by a strange noise that stops her sleeping – a loud bang inside her head whose origins she attempts to track down. She is helped by a sound technician who might be a hallucination, gets to know an archaeologist   (Jeanne Balibar) who is examining 6000-year-old bones and finally meets a man in the mountains who remembers everything and thus controls the amount of impressions he allows himself to feel.
